Human Trafficking Forum

The NCNW Detroit Section and Turning Point, Inc., in partnership with the Detroit FBI Office, invite you to a candid discussion on human trafficking featuring an expert panel with representatives from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, Crime Stoppers, and Metro Detroit community organizations. This forum will shed light on how trafficking occurs, key indicators to recognize, and the responses and resources available, with perspectives from law enforcement, healthcare professionals, victim advocates, and community partners. The program will include a continuing education activity, a fireside chat, and resource information, and flu kits will be distributed to attendees as we enter respiratory season.

Program Overview:
• Define types and venues of human trafficking in the U.S.
• Identify victims/survivors of human trafficking in health care and community settings.
• A moderated conversation with law enforcement, survivors, clinicians, and community advocates.
• Focused on real cases, survivor stories, and barriers to intervention.
• Awareness of warning signs of human trafficking of adults and minors in health care and community settings.
• Identify ways they can provide trauma-informed and empowering support to victims of human trafficking, regardless of disclosure.

Event Details:
• Parking: Validated parking for MSU-Detroit Center guests is available at the SOMA Parking Garage, located at 81 Erskine St, Detroit, MI 48201, between John R and Woodward. This structure is open to the public. Please bring your parking garage ticket with you.
• Cost:
• $20 – For social workers and registered nurses seeking continuing education credits
• Free – attendees not seeking continuing education credits (community, parents, faith leaders, etc.)
• Pre-registration will be required.
• CE certificate provided upon full attendance and completion of post-event evaluation.

Continuing Education Accreditation
This continuing education activity was approved by the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), an accredited provider by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation, as well as the Oakland University Social Work Program. Oakland University Social Work Program, a CSWE-accredited social work education program, is authorized by Administrative Rule 338.2965 to award Michigan social work continuing education contact hours. Three (3) continuing education credits/contact hours are available for social workers and registered nurses.
